Immunization Information
Before school starts, parents are urged to have their doctor or health care provider check the dates of their child’s immunizations. State law requires that parents of school children MUST provide proof that their child’s immunizations are up-to-date before the child is allowed to attend school.
Students entering the district for the first time (all Kindergarteners and students transferring in from another district) and all 6th grade students MUST have their records reviewed by an authorized health care provider. Students who are found not to have up-to-date immunizations may be excluded. If immunizations are contrary to the beliefs of the parents or are contraindicated by the child’s health, a waiver must be signed and kept in the child’s school record.
***NEW 2010-2011 School Immunization Rules***

Student Records
As your child moves through school, certain information is kept in his or her file. Regulations concerning those records have been developed at the state and federal levels and clearly explain the right of parents to review those records. A comprehensive policy is on file in each school. Highlights of the policy include:
1. The right to inspect and review your childs records. Call the principal or counselor for an appointment.
2. The right to challenge the contents of the records and to a hearing if an agreement is not reached between you and the school. It is the right of the parent to seek to correct parts of the students education record which he or she believes to be inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of the students rights. This right includes the right to a hearing to present evidence that the record should be changed if the district decides not to alter it according to the parent or eligible students request.
3. The right to control the release of records except to another school or 1) by the prior written consent of the students parent or eligible student, 2) as directory information, or 3) under certain limited circumstances, as permitted by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. (FERPA).
4. The right to obtain a copy of any record.
5. The right to refuse the release of “directory information.” Directory information includes name, address, telephone, and other personal identifying information. If you desire that your child’s name not be included in the release of such data, please notify the school in a written note to the principal. Also, when a Special Education student moves to a new school, the student's IEP and Evaluations will be sent with the other school records. NOTE: This information is released only when it is in the best interest of the pupil.
6. The right to be informed of the Family Rights and Privacy Act.
All rights and protections given to parents under the FERPA policy transfers to the student when he/she reaches age 18 or enrolls in a post-secondary school. The student then becomes an “eligible student.” Questions should be directed to the Office of Human Resources at (734) 961-6305.
