| Read-A-Thon Held at Kettering |
|
On Friday, March 13, 2009, Kettering Elementary held a school-wide Readathon.
Students were encouraged to bring a favorite stuffed animal and book and were divided up between all of the teachers.
The teachers really enjoyed having students in grades K-6 in their classes during the Readathon.
The Readathon lasted 2 hours and students accumulated more than 60 Accelerated Reader points.
In our efforts to read across America for the month of March, Kettering moved across the United States by 500 miles.
Way to read Kettering kids! Everyone had a great time!

| Kettering Pilot Program Update |
|
For the 2008-2009 school year, Kettering Elementary School has been used as a Pilot program for returning the sixth grade students back to the elementary schools.
This decision was a collaborative effort between the administration, teachers, and a group of parents who were in the fifth grade at Kettering for the 2007-2008 school year. The parents decided to have their children return to Kettering for their sixth grade year.
The teachers, Mrs. Betty Hopkins (Sixth Grade) and Ms. Anita Smith (Fifth Grade), have had a very rewarding experience with these students. The teacher’s have shared in the responsibilities of enhancing the students within their desired fields of the curriculum. Mrs. Hopkins teaches the students Mathematics and Science whereas Ms. Smith teaches English Language Arts and Social Studies.
On this given day, the two classes came together to work collaboratively together in learning the different sources of energy.

The students had an assignment in which they had to do research on the computers.
After doing the research they were to publish their learning to a billboard or a pamphlet describing what they had learned.
The students learned, relearned, and had a great time working together.
This is one example of the many activities that has happened within the Pilot Program this year.
